Financial Aspects and Parental Responsibility
One of the key elements of the CNP is its financial regulations. Unpaid meal charges are considered a delinquent debt, and thus, it’s legally unfeasible for the program to absorb these costs. Parents and guardians are responsible for funding their child’s meals, and they are notified daily via automated systems once a child incurs a meal charge. Moreover, the CNP staff or a designated school employee will begin the process of contacting parents to settle the negative balance that exceeds ten dollars.
What Constitutes a Reimbursable Meal?
It’s worth noting that every student from Pre-K through 12th grade is eligible for one reimbursable breakfast and/or lunch each day. For students in grades 4-12, the principal may decide to offer an alternative meal as part of the reimbursable meal program. However, second-student meals, adult meals, a la carte items, and extra items cannot be charged to the account.
The End-of-Year Settlement
All outstanding charges must be settled by the end of each academic year. During the month of May, parents may be contacted daily for any amount owed, as the program aims to collect all pending funds before the school year concludes.
